A GAME SEGMENT FOR YOUR KICKOFF

Sales Kickoff Games: 15-, 30- and 45-Minute Plans

Choose one reason for the segment, then build questions from material your organization has approved. Use the agendas and worksheet below to run that segment without turning the game into a performance evaluation or taking over the event.

A complete run of show for your available time

15 minutes total

One objective, one format

  1. 2 minExplain the objective, optional roles and answer method.
  2. 2 minPractice with a neutral question unrelated to job performance.
  3. 7 minPlay three approved-content questions; reveal the accepted answer after each.
  4. 3 minDiscuss one misconception and point to the current approved reference.
  5. 1 minClose and explain where participants can find the reference.

30 minutes total

A focused review segment

  1. 3 minFrame the topic and choose mixed-experience teams.
  2. 3 minPractice the submission and scoring rules.
  3. 16 minRun two short categories with checked answers and explanations.
  4. 6 minDiscuss the decisions behind the answers; correct unclear source material.
  5. 2 minSummarize the approved message and close.

45 minutes total

Knowledge, then a change of format

  1. 4 minExplain two objectives, participation choices and team roles.
  2. 3 minPractice the first format with a neutral example.
  3. 12 minUse a quiz board for approved product or process knowledge.
  4. 2 minSwitch to the prepared clue game and explain its rules.
  5. 12 minUse approved terminology in a short word-clue segment; rotate speakers.
  6. 9 minDiscuss answers, clarify messaging and identify source updates needed.
  7. 3 minClose with the approved reference and next step.

Have the questions, answer key and game access ready before the clock starts. If an explanation needs longer, drop a later question and keep the discussion and closing time. These plans cover the game segment, not the full kickoff.

Times, team arrangements and activity choices here are hosting suggestions, not measured outcomes or software player limits. Check the game’s current access and device requirements before your session.

Match the format to the objective.

Product knowledge

Use categories for approved use cases, product boundaries and customer questions. Include a source and explanation for every accepted answer. A quiz board helps organize the topics.

Messaging recall

Use familiar, approved terminology in a clue game. After a word is guessed, ask the host to state its approved meaning; a funny clue does not replace the official message.

Objection handling

Present a short, fictional customer scenario in a quiz-board clue. Ask which approved response fits and why. Accept equivalent wording inside the approved boundaries; do not reward invented promises or pressure participants to role-play.

Prepare a question from an approved fact.

Copy this structure into your existing document, or print this page as a worksheet. The content owner should check the source, question, accepted answer and explanation together. Do not paste confidential customer information into a public game.

Completed example: fictional Acorn Demo Team

This invented practice policy demonstrates the worksheet. It is not a real organization’s approved content.

Session objective
Practice the fictional Acorn Demo Team’s booking process.
Approved fact or message
Fictional practice policy: book demonstrations through the shared demo calendar. Do not promise a time before confirming availability.
Source and version
Fictional practice policy v1, supplied in this example; not a real company policy.
Content owner
Example only — replace with your own responsible owner.
Review date
Example only — enter the date your owner checks your actual policy.
Question or prompt
A prospect asks for a demonstration tomorrow at 10. What should you do before promising that time?
Accepted answer
Check availability in the shared demo calendar.
Explanation and boundaries
The supplied fictional policy requires checking availability first. Do not invent a response-time promise.
Approval status
Illustration only; not approved for any organization’s training.

Give people a comfortable way to join.

  • Offer answering, recording, observing or scorekeeping roles, with a pass that needs no explanation.
  • Mix experience levels; do not publish individual scores or use game results for employee evaluation.
  • Allow silent thinking and team discussion before a spokesperson submits. A correct explanation can matter more than speed.
  • Read prompts aloud and show them in text. Avoid insider jokes, personal disclosures and questions that advantage one office’s local knowledge.

In person

Check screen readability from the back. Use table teams and rotate the spokesperson. Keep an offline copy of your approved key.

Remote

Use a meeting host and a chat watcher. Rehearse screen sharing, keep answers private until the reveal, and give teams a clear submission channel.

Hybrid

Ask remote participants to confirm they can see and hear. Use the same answer method and deadline for everyone; avoid awarding the fastest shout from the room.
